Testing method
Endotoxin testing
For laboratory research use only. Not for human consumption.
- What it measures
- Bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide from Gram-negative bacteria) in the sample.
- How it works
- The Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) reagent reacts with endotoxin. The reaction is read as gel formation, turbidity or colour change and compared with an endotoxin standard.
- Sample
- A dissolved portion of the vial contents in endotoxin-free water.
- Result reported as
- Endotoxin units (EU) per milligram or per millilitre (EU/mg, EU/mL).
- Limits
- Detects endotoxin only. It says nothing about live organisms; that is a sterility test.
- Standards
- USP General Chapter <85> Bacterial Endotoxins Test; Ph. Eur. 2.6.14 Bacterial endotoxins
- On our reports
- 0 of 23 None of our published reports include endotoxin testing.
