Understanding Peptide Storage & Handling (for research)

This is a general, laboratory-handling overview for research peptides supplied as lyophilized powder. Why peptides ship as lyophilized powder
Ouralus compounds are supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. Lyophilization removes water under vacuum, which is the standard way to keep peptides stable for storage and transport: a dry solid is far less prone to degradation than material held in solution. This is why research peptides are typically distributed as a powder in a sealed vial rather than pre-dissolved.
Cold-chain storage
Lyophilized peptides are generally kept cold. As a broad principle used in laboratories, the colder and more stable the storage, the better the long-term integrity of the material. Product pages list a storage indication (commonly around −20 °C, desiccated) for each compound; follow the specification on the relevant page and your own laboratory's storage standards.
- Long-term: cold storage of the sealed, desiccated powder.
- Minimise freeze–thaw cycles: repeated warming and cooling is a common cause of avoidable degradation in the lab.
- Return to storage promptly after handling, kept sealed.
Desiccation and moisture
Lyophilized powders are hygroscopic — they attract atmospheric moisture, which is a primary route to degradation. Keep vials desiccated and sealed, and let a cold vial equilibrate before opening so condensation doesn't form inside it. Moisture control is one of the most important parts of keeping a research peptide intact.
Light and temperature exposure
Protect material from prolonged light and from unnecessary temperature swings. Store away from direct light, and avoid leaving vials at ambient temperature longer than a handling step requires. These are routine good-practice measures for sensitive research reagents.
Reconstitution — a research-protocol matter
Some laboratory protocols call for reconstituting a lyophilized powder in an appropriate solvent before analytical work. What solvent, what concentration, and how the material is subsequently used are determined entirely by the receiving laboratory's own validated methods — they are not something Ouralus specifies. We provide no reconstitution recipe, concentration, dosing, or administration instructions, because these materials are for laboratory research use only and we make no claims about use. If a protocol requires it, follow your laboratory's established, validated procedure.

Handle, store, and dispose of all materials according to your laboratory's protocols and applicable regulations, using appropriate protective equipment.
